ROGERIO'S CLASS
Stereotype exercise
Find and understand stereotypes, answer the following questions:
“Everyone creates stereotypes. We cannot function in the world without them.” (S. Gilman)
Revisit the first exercise (mapping of you & the other). What are the assumptions you (still) have about the ‘user group’? How were they debunked or confirmed?

Assumptions:
- In need of money.
- No values.
- No care about your body.
- No care how has sex with.
- Mainly females.
- Drug addict.
- Uneducated.

Write down your personal interest in this group? What are you curious about? How do you relate to this group (positive of negative); do you want to be part of it, do you admire them, are you more negative about them?

It’s a job that has always been seen as dirty, why? Because you have sex with everyone, I guess but at the same time is the oldest job in the human history why don’t we normalize it? It really captivates my curiosity and really interested on researching and acquiring more knowledge on this theme and if possible, get an answer to my questions. Also, I’m fascinated about sex, really interesting to create art with since is so taboo and can’t hurt anyone talking about it. This group are mainly females, and this also captivates my attention and clearly makes me relate to them also hoping I will never be on a situation in which this job is my only way of surviving. I feel quite weird about it because there is obviously this almost horror stories about human trafficking and forced prostitution but there are also people how do it not only for a living but can actually enjoy it…?

Signifiers that stereotype: Objects and their meaning
Which existing stereotypes have you found about your group? Describe them.
Fragmentation and Fetishized: Which objects (e.g. food, products, clothes, part of the body) are used to stereotype with? Where did you find them? In which shape, form or media (jokes, sayings, news, tv, politics, shops, history, education,...)

In general prostitutes or anything in that scene is seen as:
- Dirty
- Bitches
- Pimps
- Slot
- Fake bodies

The effect of stereotypes: Power and discrimination
Who spreads these stereotypes about your usergroup? What do you assume their intention is? Did you find examples of discrimination, ongoing conflicts, historic events or other injustices where stereotypes are used to control or overpower your ‘user group’? Which system of oppression is it part of (racism, classism, agism, sexism?

Well, my user group has always been seen as a dirty and underground people, in general even the people how to use their services are consider gorse so I guess since this is the oldest job in the world probably all this came from the people. Is an assumption we all have when we talk about prostitutes and it’s been like this since always.

Have you found examples where your ‘social group’ is reversing the stereotype; using the known stereotypes and appropriating them for their own cause? (see more Hall, 5.1: Reversing the stereotype).

Not really that I know of I think it will always have the bad connotations and stereotype because it will never be socially accepted, already talking about sex between 2 persons without any money in the middle is hard for some people this is rather impossible that the taboo and stereotypes will change, in my opinion.
Unhealthy dirty girls waiting by the streets, ass we see them in the MOVIES
Literally some people specially clients see them as a hole, not a human being.
